Making code accessible to everyone

We Built This Because We Needed It

Back in 2023, we couldn't find programming courses that actually made sense for absolute beginners. Everything assumed you already knew the basics. So we started teaching friends on weekends, and it just grew from there.

Started Small, Stayed Real

Our first class had six people in a borrowed office space. Three dropped out after the first week because they thought it would be easier. The three who stayed? They're now working as junior developers.

That taught us something important. Programming isn't easy, and we shouldn't pretend it is. What matters is breaking things down until they make sense, then practicing until they stick. No shortcuts, no magic formulas.

Why Taiwan? Because That's Home

We're based in Nantou County for a reason. Rent is cheaper than Taipei, which means we can keep course prices lower. Plus, we wanted to prove you don't need to be in a tech hub to learn this stuff properly.

Most of our students commute from surrounding areas or join our online sessions. Some travel from Taichung on weekends. Geography shouldn't dictate whether you can learn to code or not.

Our Teaching Philosophy

We don't believe in bootcamps that promise job placement after twelve weeks. That's not realistic for most people, especially complete beginners. Instead, we run six-month programs starting in autumn 2025 and spring 2026.

You'll spend the first two months just understanding how computers think. Sounds basic, but it's where most courses skip ahead too fast. Then we build actual projects together. Small ones at first, then gradually more complex. By month five, you're working independently with our guidance when needed.

Will you get a job immediately after? Maybe, if you're lucky and work incredibly hard. More likely, you'll need another six months of building your own projects and applying what you learned. We're honest about that from day one.

What Makes Us Different

We keep class sizes under twelve people. That's deliberate. When someone gets stuck, we need time to actually figure out why their code isn't working, not just give them the answer.

Also, we teach in English. Taiwan has great tech education, but most of it's in Mandarin. For programming documentation and Stack Overflow searches, English matters. You'll learn the code and improve your technical English simultaneously.

And honestly? We mess up sometimes. Had a week last year where our main instructor got the flu, and we had to reschedule everything. Students were frustrated. We learned to have backup plans. That's part of being a small, real operation rather than some polished corporate academy.

Who's Actually Teaching You

Just two of us right now. We bring in guest instructors for specialized topics, but these are the people you'll interact with weekly.

Torin Kvalheim, Lead Instructor at FlashTurbo

Torin Kvalheim

Lead Instructor

Worked in software development for eight years before this. Got tired of the startup grind in Taipei and moved back home to Nantou in 2023. Started teaching because friends kept asking for help learning to code. Specializes in JavaScript and practical problem-solving.

Eamon Cillian, Technical Instructor at FlashTurbo

Eamon Cillian

Technical Instructor

Backend developer who moved to Taiwan in 2021. Handles the more technical side of our curriculum. Previously taught computer science at a university in Ireland but found the academic environment too rigid. Prefers teaching people who actually want to build things rather than just pass exams.

Ready to Actually Learn Programming?

Our next six-month program starts in September 2025. Classes are Saturday mornings, with online options available. We'll be honest about what it takes, support you when you're stuck, and celebrate when something finally clicks.
